Foster
Foster a cat or kitten
Foster homes are the heart of our rescue. Every cat we save is a cat who had a person waiting at home with food, a quiet room, and patience. You give a cat a safe place to land, and we cover everything else.
Food, litter, carriers, crates, medications, and all veterinary care, scheduled and paid for by us.
A quiet room or bathroom, daily feeding and litter scooping, and gentle attention.
A volunteer is a text away with support, day or night. You're never alone with a sick kitten at 2am.
Who can foster
Almost anyone with a spare room and a soft heart. You don't need experience, just willingness to learn. We match cats to fosters based on your space, schedule, and comfort level.
- Renters welcome (with landlord approval).
- Families with kids welcome; we'll match age-appropriate cats.
- Resident pets must be vaccinated and friendly to a quiet new neighbor behind a door.
- First-time fosters get extra support and an easier-match cat.
What you can foster
Newborns who need feeding every 2–4 hours. High commitment, deeply rewarding, training provided.
Mom does most of the work. You provide a quiet room for 4–8 weeks and watch tiny eyes open.
Old enough to eat and litter on their own. Socialization, play, and getting them adoption-ready.
Often the most overlooked. Sweet, calm, low-maintenance fosters who just want a couch and a window.
Cats healing from surgery, URI, or injury. We provide meds and instructions; you provide quiet time.
A weekend or a week, giving a regular foster a break or covering a transport. Great way to start.
A typical foster timeline
- Day 0. We deliver the cat and supplies, help you set up the foster space, and walk through care.
- First week. Settle in, build trust, learn personality. We check in daily.
- Weeks 2–6. Routine care, vet visits as needed, photos and notes for the adoption listing.
- Adoption. Once cleared by our vet, we list them. You can meet adopters, or we handle it. Saying goodbye is hard, then a new cat shows up.
Common questions
What if I fall in love?
It happens, and we call it a "foster fail" (a happy one). You get first right of adoption at the standard fee.
What if it's not working out?
Tell us. We'll move the cat to another foster, no judgment. The match has to work for both of you.
Do I need cat experience?
No. We'll match you with a cat that fits your experience level and teach you everything you need.
Can I travel while fostering?
Yes, with notice. We'll arrange a temporary foster or take the cat back into our network while you're away.
What does it cost me?
Nothing required. Food, litter, supplies, and vet care are on us. Some fosters chip in optional treats or toys; entirely up to you.
