Adoption questions
The most common things adopters ask us. If your question isn't here, just reach out.
Do you adopt off island?
Generally we adopt on O'ahu. Off island adoptions are considered case by case for the right home, but you'll need to coordinate transport.
Can I adopt if I rent?
Yes, with written permission from your landlord allowing cats. A short email or signed note works. We'll ask for a copy during application review.
Do my other pets need to be vaccinated?
Yes. Resident dogs and cats should be up to date on core vaccines and spayed or neutered. We'll ask for vet contact info as part of the application.
Indoor only?
Yes. Our cats are adopted as indoor pets, or indoors with a secured catio or screened lanai. Hawai'i's wildlife, traffic, and disease load make outdoor life genuinely risky.
How long does the process take?
Usually 3 to 7 days from application to going home, depending on how quickly we can connect for a meet and greet.
What if it doesn't work out?
The cat comes back to us, no questions asked. That commitment is for life, even years later. We'd much rather you call us than rehome on your own.
Can I adopt a kitten if I work full time?
Single kittens get lonely and bored without a playmate. We strongly encourage adopting kittens in pairs or with a resident cat under 5. Adult cats are usually more independent.
Do you offer trial adoptions?
All our adoptions have an implicit trial period — if it's not working in the first few weeks, call us and we'll help figure it out, including taking the cat back.
What's the adoption fee?
Fees vary by cat and are shown on each cat's listing on the available cats page. Fees offset a fraction of what we spend per cat, including spay/neuter, vaccines, microchip, FeLV/FIV test, deworming, and starter kit. See our care standards for details.
